Mount
Vernon Club Sponsors Stratford Landing K-Kids Club
by Paul Mehler

On
February 28, 2008, the Stratford Landing K-Kids Club was
officially chartered as a K-Kids Club. Capital District
Kiwanis Governor Art Riley was present to award the Charter
(left). Kellee
Hearther, mother of 3 girls who are members, was instrumental
in organizing the K-Kids Club at Stratford Landing Elementary
School. Her children had participated in K-Kids in their
prior home in the state of Washington. When the Hearthers
moved to Fairfax County, there was no K-Kids at their school.
So Kellee took matters into her own hands and helped her
children start a K-Kids group at Stratford Landing Elementary
School. The group has grown to about 10% of the entire
student body (right). It is the only K-Kids Club in Fairfax
County. Encouraged
by their teachers and parents, the students have already
performed many community service activities.

Final plans are underway for the Second Capital District Key Leader Weekend being
held April 25-27th at Arlington Echo in Millersville, MD.
The menus have been selected, the camp visited by Capital
District Key Leader leadership, and registration well underway.
All we need are for the Kiwanis Clubs to be sure their sponsored
youth participants are getting registered and subsequent
invoices paid.
