CKI Members: Willing and Ready to Help!
by Samantha Staebell, CDCKI Editor

CKI Members are just like any other member of the Kiwanis family, except of course, we are crazy college students! But, you would be surprised to know that we are not as different as you think. We all love to complete service, work with kids, and even work on a few fundraisers. A good relationship with your CKI club can be beneficial for all parties involved. more

Kiwanis Club of Poquoson Annual Christine Garvey Memorial Soccer Tournament
by Pat Garvey

On March 12-14, 2008, six clubs from Div 23 (Colonial Capital, Denbigh, Poquoson,Tabb, York,Williamsburg) and one club from Div 13 (Warwick) hosted 32 boys and girls varsity and JV soccer teams in a three day tournament designed to raise funds in the fight against breast cancer. Along with these Kiwanis Clubs, five Key Clubs (Bruton, Poquoson, Tabb Walsingham, York) provided volunteers to support concession stands and other field duties. In a great show of support, the local Soccer Referee organization supplied volunteer Refs for all games. Some Refs wore pink jerseys and used pink whistles -- the official color of breast cancer research. This year's event raised a whopping $9,400. In its nine year history this tournament has raised over $95,000. Every dollar is donated to The Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. First embraced by the Poquoson Club, this has evolved into a true Division 23 project and each it offers over 500 youth a quality event on the Virginia Peninsula.
