CKI Members: Willing and Ready to Help!
by Samantha Staebell, CDCKI Editor

CKI Members are just like any other member of the Kiwanis family, except of course, we are crazy college students! But, you would be surprised to know that we are not as different as you think. We all love to complete service, work with kids, and even work on a few fundraisers. A good relationship with your CKI club can be beneficial for all parties involved. more

Crisfield Club Rewards Students With BUGS!
by Vickie Nelson, Public Relations Specialist, Somerset County Public Schools

The Crisfield Kiwanis Club has teamed up with Carter G. Woodson Elementary School to reward students who bring up their grades by sponsoring the BUGS Program (Bring Up GradeS). One hundred twenty-nine students in grades 1-5 were recently rewarded for improving their grades from the first marking period. Each student received a certificate and a pencil.

Kiwanian Jack Morgan, chairman of the BUGS Committee, who was instrumental in bringing the program to Woodson Elementary, saw this as another opportunity to provide incentives to students to strive to do better in school. This program rewards students who otherwise, may never get recognized because it is for every student who raises their grade even if they are very low to start. BUGS awards are given beginning with the second marking period as the first marking period grades are used as the baseline.

The Crisfield Kiwanis Club has been in existence for 62 years and the BUGS Program is just one more way they give back to the community. Woodson Elementary is honored to be collaborating with the Kiwanis Club in this special program.
